Seema Kohli Indian, b. 1960
Further images
In this work, Kohli envisions realms beyond the visible — spaces where spirit, matter, and light merge in divine harmony. The golden Hamsa ascends skyward, bearing an androgynous celestial rider — part Saraswati, part Rudra-Shiva — uniting the solar and lunar, the earthly and the cosmic.
The deer poised on its wings evoke the passage of time, while clouds and light dissolve the boundaries between heaven and earth. Translating Kohli’s intricate imagery into silk and cotton threads, artisans employed satin, chain, bullion, and French knots to capture its luminous textures and ethereal depth. Completed over 6,000 hours, the work celebrates the harmony between art, craft, and the eternal cycles of creation.
