Through this evocative artwork, Kumar invites us to ponder the Parthenon’s tumultuous journey—its transformation from a temple to a church, a mosque, and even a gunpowder depot, only to be ravaged by a Venetian bomb in 1687. The piece echoes the fragmentation of its history, reflecting on the surviving sculptures scattered across the world in museums like the British Museum and the Louvre.
French knots and an array of intricate micro-stitches are meticulously crafted to translate the fragmented essence of the artwork into embroidery. Strategically raised elements add depth, creating the illusion of shattered walls and fractured sculptures. This beautiful work took 6000 hours to complete.
