Sheikh’s Terrain: Carrying Across, Leaving Behind Series, which Across Land is a part of, depicts stories of journeys, search and the dangers thereof, from the perspective of different players. The references for this painting come from 14th century Siennese paintings, 12th century Turkish paintings and elsewhere. These stories are further enhanced by the landscapes, flora and fauna in the artworks showing how nature is intertwined with our lives and impact our stories.
The finely done embroidery with a blend of silk and cotton threads using French knots, satin stitch, chain stitch and others, defines each motif, bringing it to life while also maintaining the stencil effect from the original artwork. This artwork took approximately 7000 hours of handwork to be completed.
