Biography

Waswo X. Waswo is an American-born artist who has made India his creative home for over two decades. Best known for his collaborative projects with local artisans in Rajasthan, his practice spans photography, hand-colored prints, miniature painting, and poetry. Waswo’s art reflects a unique dialogue between cultures, traditions, and identities, combining personal narratives with broader social and historical themes.

His series often playfully address issues of representation, colonial legacies, and cross-cultural exchange. Collaborating closely with master miniaturist Rakesh Vijay and photo hand-colorist Rajesh Soni, Waswo has developed a body of work that bridges contemporary concerns with traditional Indian aesthetics, resulting in hybrid forms that are both intimate and expansive.

His exhibitions have been held in major museums and galleries across India and internationally, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in Bangalore, Gallery Espace in New Delhi, and institutions in Europe and the U.S. His works are part of numerous prominent collections, such as the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and the Peabody Essex Museum.
