For Nikhil Chopra, the landscape of Goa—his current home—is a canvas for memory and a repository of histories, both personal and collective. Land, like water, retains all that flows through it: encounters, violence, healing, and intimacies. Goa’s environment, marked by colonial histories, cultural encounters, and natural beauty, offers Chopra a space to explore these layered narratives.
The tranquil beauty of Goa’s serene beaches comes alive through the mastery of intricate embroidery techniques. Using silk and cotton threads, artisans employed a blend of knotting, satin stitches, backstitch, loop stitches, and chain stitch to capture the essence of this picturesque paradise. The true artistry lies in harmonizing the myriad hues of sky, land, and sea while preserving the delicate textures reminiscent of pastel and charcoal strokes on canvas. This extraordinary masterpiece, a testament to dedication and skill, required a staggering 6,000 hours to complete.
