Art Mumbai, 2025: Ananta: Infinite Stories, timeless Voices.
Milaaya Art Gallery presents Ananta – Infinite Stories, Timeless Voices, an exhibition that brings together eight distinguished Indian artists—K. K. Hebbar, Ranbir Kaleka, Nikhil Chopra, Seema Kohli, Jagannath Panda, Waswo X. Waswo, Rekha Rodwittiya, and Shaurya Kumar—in collaboration with the master artisans of our Mumbai atelier. Together, they explore the transformative potential of hand embroidery as a medium that bridges the realms of contemporary art and traditional craft, translating diverse artistic visions into richly textured fibre works.
The title Ananta, drawn from Sanskrit, means “infinite” — symbolising continuity, timelessness, and the ever-evolving nature of creation. In this exhibition, it becomes a metaphor for the unending flow of stories and voices that transcend time, material, and meaning.
Each artist contributes a distinct visual and philosophical language: Hebbar’s modernist sensibility captures rhythm and movement rooted in the human condition; Kaleka’s cinematic dreamscapes blend the surreal and the sacred; Chopra’s performative cartographies trace memory and identity across space and time; Kohli’s luminous visions celebrate feminine energy and spiritual continuity; Panda’s layered compositions reflect on ecology and urban myth; Waswo X. Waswo reimagines portraiture and cultural dialogue; Rodwittiya’s narratives embody strength, mythology, and memory; while Shaurya Kumar interrogates materiality and the passage of time itself.
Through an intricate dialogue between artist and artisan, these works find new form in thread — where painting, performance, and philosophy are reinterpreted as tactile narratives. Each stitch carries intention, echoing the slowness of thought, the precision of craft, and the continuity of human expression.
In Ananta, embroidery becomes a language of storytelling — a medium that weaves together history, imagination, and emotion. The exhibition celebrates the infinite nature of art itself: a continuum of creation where stories are reborn through touch, texture, and timeless voice.
